Waterproofing of the garment
We validated this garment in a shower test under 60 liters of water/m²/hour for two hours. This test reproduces the average conditions of a downpour. The fabric of this jacket is water-repellent, which means that it allows water to slide off its surface without absorbing it. This way, the textile does not get soaked with water and remains light and breathable. Water repellency is achieved by a treatment applied to the outer surface of the fabric. In addition, we have sealed 100% of the seams.
How to maintain the waterproofing of your jacket
In order to maintain good waterproofing for a long time, we advise you to regularly reactivate the water-repellent of the fabric. You can do this every three washes, or after a dozen or so uses in the rain. The reactivation of the water repellency can be easily done while hot: either with your tumble dryer, or with a hair dryer for example, over a fairly short time. In case of washing, a thorough rinse is essential.
Waterproofing measurement expressed in mm or schmerber
The resistance of a fabric to a water pressure expressed in mm of water column is measured (test based on the JIS 1092 L standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A component with a waterproofing of 5000 mm can therefore withstand the pressure exerted by 5000 mm of water.
Technical hood
The hood can be adjusted in height with a drawstring. It can be adjusted in depth thanks to a velcro tab positioned at the back of the hood. The hood has a memory foam visor for good protection in the face area.
Component breathability
To find out if a fabric is breathable, its coefficient of Thermal Evaporative Resistance (RET) is measured in a test based on the ISO 11092 standard. The lower the resistance, the more the fabric lets out the water vapour generated by the active body and is breathable.
- RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric
- 9 < RET < 12 = highly breathable fabric
- 12 < RET < 20 = breathable fabric
- RET > 20 = fabric with little or no breathability
- RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric
- 9 < RET < 12 = highly breathable fabric
- 12 < RET < 20 = breathable fabric
- RET > 20 = fabric with little or no breathability
How to choose your waterproof jacket according to your practice and your sporting effort?
During a sporting effort, we sweat more or less depending on the intensity or length of the effort. If the breathability of the fabric is not adapted to the effort, the sweat vapour condenses inside the jacket. We're wet inside: it's not the rain that pierces through, but the sweat vapor that condenses. It is therefore necessary to choose your rain jacket according to your type of effort. This jacket is designed for a two-hour hike at a maximum pace of 5 km/h.
Technical liners
The lining of the jacket is made of two materials: mesh on the back to promote breathability and nylon on the hips to optimize ease of movement and abrasion resistance. On the hood, we used a peachskin effect material with a soft touch for more comfort.
A complete pocket system
The jacket has seven pockets in total! Two pockets to warm your hands on the sides. Two large external gusseted pockets closed with a flap and a snap button. An outer chest pocket and an inner pocket, both closed with a zip to secure your personal belongings. An inside mesh pocket to store your gloves, for example, and keep them warm against your body!
