  1. Hiking can improve your mental well-being. Did you know, simply being surrounded by nature will make you feel good? People who spend time in the open air are more relaxed and happy. Being surrounded by nature can lower your stress level, heart rate, blood pressure, and cholesterol rates.

  2. Hiking is an endurance activity that adapts to everyone's ability, unlike more intense sports, it plays a role in the general improvement of the immune system. This is in part thanks to the molecules secreted by the plants and trees: phytoncides.

  3. Hiking can be enjoyed for long periods, without overdoing it, it does not exhaust the body too much. However, it is a comprehensive form of exercise, with extra focus on the lower body, but doesn't strain the joints. It is a great sport to maintain muscle tone.

  4. Hiking regularly reduces bad cholesterol and increases good cholesterol, improving the health of your arteries and reducing your arterial pressure.

  5. It also prevents osteoporosis thanks to its effect on the bones and joints. Regular practice of hiking can lead bone density to increase, therefore reducing the risk of fractures. Think about using poles to take pressure off your knees and help you with climbs and descents.

  6. Lastly, hiking will also allow you to stock up on vitamin D! You need to know that getting exposed to sunlight will not only benefit your mood; but also prosper you with vitamin D. Be careful not to get sunburnt!  Don’t forget to apply sunscreen properly when you’re hiking.
